Everyone can agree that stretch marks are not the beauty mark of choice and yet they are the easiest to achieve. The best way to get rid of stretch marks would be to
prevent them but we all know that most people don’t do preventative medicine but look for answers after they obtain the problem. And that is often the case with stretch marks. We get them during rapid growth spurts during puberty, rapid weight gain, rapid bodybuilding, and the number one cause for women, pregnancy. So now that you have them and discovered that you can’t wear that itty bitty yellow polka dot bikini anymore, you are trying to find ways to get your body and confidence back. Some are just looking for a sure remedy while others may be thinking about what chemicals they are putting in or on their body. There are many methods that claim to get rid of your stretch marks which include creams and oils, laser treatment, and microdermabrasion. However, the method to choose can be hard. Here is a basic outline of each method to help you analyze your choices.
Stretch Mark Creams and Oils
There are many creams and oils out there but the number one thing to think about when shopping for one is making sure it is not saturated with water. Too much water in the cream means fewer ingredients that are actually going to penetrate your skin and help your body heal your stretch marks. Also, watch out for cocoa butter claims. Cocoa butter moisturizes skin very well and is effective in preventing stretch marks but it is not as effective in repairing your skin. Like water based creams it is unable to penetrate deep enough into your skin to do repairing of skin tissue. The most effective creams generally have ingredients like elastin, emu oil, and collagen, all of which are effective in penetrating deep into your skin to repair the skin. These creams are more sought after because they work on old, deep stretch marks as well as new stretch marks. The timetable for visible results varies greatly but overall these creams are safe, easy, and considerably cheaper compared to the other methods of removal.
For those of you attempting to get rid of pregnancy stretch marks it is important for you to know that stretch mark creams that contain Tretinion or Retin-A are NOT RECOMMENDED for breastfeeding mothers. There is not enough reliable information regarding the amount of Retin-A that is excreted in breast milk or its effect on the nursing baby.
Laser treatment
Laser treatment uses a laser to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. The procedure is expensive since you are paying a clinic and doctor for their services. The results of laser treatment are questionable as people have been getting a variety of results from an actual decrease in the appearance of stretch marks to a darkening of or additional scarring appearance of the stretch marks.
Microdermabrasion
This process uses tiny rough grains that buff the surface of the skin but at the same time help stimulate collagen production in the deeper tissues. The results again vary but unlike laser treatment it requires multiple treatments to get results and older stretch marks will be harder to reduce. This process is also expensive.
After evaluating these methods you can see that the best method to start with is stretch mark creams. However, to get results you need to make sure that the stretch mark cream you are buying is not water based a nd includes the ingredients needed for deep penetration. If you still have trouble reducing or minimizing the appearance of your stretch marks you should look into the other options.
