Here’s What You Don’t Know About Pregnancy and Preventing Stretch Marks
You can use all of the moisturizing creams you wish when you are expecting a baby, but you probably still won’t be able to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy. During your fourth month, your body is going to start a cycle of quick growth. If you have the right genes, you may be among the few that can avoid these skin blemishes with proper health care and moisturizing products.
But for majority of women, the following things will determine if these red and purplish marks will appear and how dramatically they will appear:
#1 - Genetics: Expecting women whose mother, sisters or grandmothers had stretch marks are extremely likely to get them too.
#2 - Own history: Pregnant women who’ve had this kind of skin damage previously (pre-pregnancy) are definitely going to develop them during pregnancy. They may even get longer with every pregnancy.
#3 - Fast weight gain: If, during the first couple of months of your pregnancy, you gain weight rapidly, stretch marks may start to show up on your body starting on the fifth month.
#4 - Taking care of health: Women who don’t practice proper health care (e.g., regular exercise, good nutrition and drinking lots of water) are likely to develop these marks during pregnancy.
#5 - The color of your skin: The less pigmented your natural skin tone is, the more apt you are to get stretch marks.
If Stretch Marks Still Appear Even After Using Prevention Techniques
Fortunately, these skin blemishes don’t come with health problems and don’t cause pain. However, they can keep more moisture and can also cause skin dryness, which can induce the periodic itching.
In pregnant women, the stomach is obviously where these marks occur. But pregnancy can also cause quick skin expansion in other areas of the body, not just the belly. Your arms, breasts, rear, hips and thighs are likely locations for stretch marks as well.
If you have light skin, these skin damage marks are going to be somewhat red in color. If your skin is dark, you’ll get them with a color that is more or less inverse to your skin tone. The color of the marks can range from a pink shade to dark purple.
Those stretch marks that appear during pregnancy aren’t going to go away anytime soon. After you deliver, your body will continue going through fast shifts in size so you can expect more of them to appear or the ones you already have to look more noticeable.
However, all is not lost if you end up with stretch marks. Over time, some or most of those pregnancy "badges of honor" will lighten. If you don’t continue gaining weight after giving birth, the marks will not look as apparent as they used to after 6 months or so. When you are no longer breastfeeding, your obstetrician may recommend a stretch mark product called Barmon Stretch Mark Cream. It can be used safely throughout your pregnancy and even while breast feeling.
